克拉码头的昔日幽美风貌

这是一幅描绘历史景观的油画作品，主题是克拉码头的昔日幽美风貌，在那个年代里克拉码头一带尚未发展成为繁华的旅游商业区，缺乏五花八门色彩缤纷的景物、鲜有人来人往的热闹场面；河上的许许多多驳船经年累月，日复一日，从不间断地把抵达新加坡河口附近海域的远洋货轮卸下之部分货物，转运至这些位于新加坡河中上游岸边的大大小小货仓和商行。图中的驳船刚刚把转运来的货物卸下之后稍在这儿停泊等候下一次的任务。乘着这片刻微风中有灿烂又炎热的阳光，船夫把那专用来为货物遮风挡雨和遮荫防备烈日曝晒的帆布撑开来吹吹风晒晒太阳，乍看之下误以为是船帆，你可千万别误以为真哦，因为这木制驳船的驱动力完全来自船舱内的柴油马达。

此作品绘于1969年，当时画者刚刚出道，完成这副油画作品之后甚感满意，沾沾自喜对它非常酷爱，因而一直保为己有，在不知不觉中时光静悄悄地飞逝了，珍藏至今竟然一晃就是数十年！

This is a historical scene painted in oil colours, depicting the scenic Clarke Quay in the good old days before this upper middle flow location of Singapore River banks were developed into a bustling commercial zone for the lucrative tourist industry. There were huge as well as not so large warehouses on the river banks here, numerous wooden tug boats were seen busy transferring some of the imported cargos unloaded by ocean-going freighters that arrived at the waters near the mouth of Singapore River to the warehouses in the Clarke Quay area. In this painting, a tug boat had just completed unloading the transhipment moments ago and were having a break here to wait for the next task, the boatmen took the opportunity to stretch out the canvas that protects the cargo from rain water and hot sun exposure to air in the windy warm sunshine. It looked like a sail of the boat in a glance; however, you should not to be confused as the wooden tug boat is fully powered by diesel engine built in the boat.

This piece of art was painted in 1969. The creator was a budding painter in those days, after completing this particular piece of oil painting, he felt great and proud of it, he was very reluctant to part it away even though there were some good offers, unknowingly time has quietly and swiftly slipped away that he has had treasured it for decades by now when he comes to realize the matter!
